Bayerische Kabelwerke (Bayka) is a leading supplier of power, telecommunications and railway cables together with many other specialist cable types.
Historically, the manufacture of the aluminium conductor was outsourced. Following a process review it was decided to bring this process in-house.
Bayka required a production solution that was quick to install and easy and efficient to maintain and run.
Meltech CRE worked alongside the procurement, engineering and manufacturing teams at Bayka to develop a project specification to determine the optimum throughput and capital cost for their desired application.
The operating and capital costs of the MC300 are much lower than those of ‘conventional’ extrusion processes. With output at 1,000 to 1,200kg/hour and the ability to extrude aluminium conductors from 20mm² to 1,000mm², the MC300 offers high productivity and versatility.
To offer complete flexibility, the MC300 requires only a simple tool change to allow the extrusion of copper wires and profiles. This means the machine can produce aluminium conductor, aluminium tubes, copper busbar, copper lightning conductor, brass shapes and wires.
By bringing this process in-house, Bayka has improved productivity, lowered costs and reduced their procurement risk.
