The Meltech Company to showcase its engineering expertise at the Dusseldorf Wire Show 2018
The Meltech Company will be showcasing its design and engineering capabilities at this year’s Wire Show in Dusseldorf, Germany from 16-20th April.
Since the last Wire Show in 2016, Meltech has continued to demonstrate its expertise in wire and cable machine engineering, undertaking a number of major projects across its full machine portfolio. To facilitate its future manufacturing output, the company is now also expanding into a new 5000 square foot site in Blackburn, Lancashire, UK.
In Furnaces and Ovens, as testament to the company’s recognised engineering capabilities, The Meltech Company has recently supplied a new 12-tube strand-annealing furnace for its long-standing customer NV Bekaert SA, of Belgium. What made this project particularly special is the fact that this furnace was shipped and commissioned last year to its customer’s facility in China. The company’s Managing Director, John Stamp said about the project: “To ship the 16 metre long furnace to China, our engineering team were presented with the additional challenge of designing and building the furnace in two sections. We had to ensure that when the two sections were connected together the furnace would function effectively without any loss of heat. Quite a challenge, but one we once again managed to address successfully.”
The Meltech Company was also recently commissioned to design five large 55 Tonne transportable ‘A’ frame winders for Netherlands based cable manufacturer TKF. The winders were a bespoke design allowing the units to be positioned on pedestals, with the facility to allow a truck to reverse in underneath the winders and between the pedestals. This enabled the winder to be positioned on the truck with a bespoke lifting mechanism. Each winder was supplied complete with a ø3200 steel drum, 6000mm wide fully enclosed when in transportation, with quick opening panels for access during operation. These units allow umbilical cable to be manufactured at TKF’s site in Haaksbergen and then road transported to their Lochem site for de-gassing. The de-gassing ovens were also custom designed to accept the winders being off-loaded and re-loaded back onto the truck. Repeatable accurate positioning was essential for the winding and de-gassing processes.
In the field of Continuous Rotary Extrusion, The Meltech Company has also continued to innovate, with the supply of a specially designed extrusion shoe for an MC300 CRE machine for an existing customer. As a result, the customer is now successfully producing 2,500mm2 solid aluminium conductor for high voltage cable applications.
Recent and continued interest in the development of CRE for the recycling of aluminium and copper has resulted in a number of trials using both these materials in various granular forms. The Meltech Company is actively seeking collaborators to develop this exciting application further.
The Meltech Company also continues to supply the most cost effective CRE lines using optimum tooling designs and materials for standard applications. The company has recently supplied CRE lines to Poland, Ukraine, and Germany and are currently developing further opportunities in various locations around the world including Taiwan, Russia, Poland and Germany.
